Dry Fish Masala

My family loves fish fillets more than fish with bones, so any time I make fish is the shallow fried one. Finally i tried the same masala and made dry fish masala and it worked out absolutely fine. I used tilapia fillets and it takes less than 20 minutes to prepare and delivers a very tasty dish.
Preparation time - 20 minutes
Serves - 2 people

Ingredients :
Tilapia fillets -2
Onion - 1 medium
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Curry Leaves - 1 spring
Coriander Seeds - 1 tbsp
Red Chillies -3
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Fresh or dry Coconut - 2 tbsp
Coriander Leaves - for garnish
Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt - to taste

Method :
  1. Wash fillets in running water and cut into bite size pieces.
  2. Marinate them with 2 tbsp of salt, turmeric powder for at least half an hour. Any smell from fish will be gone by doing this.
  3. Dry roast red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and grind them with coconut.
  4. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan, add onions and saute till translucent, add ginger garlic paste. Saute till the raw smell is gone. Add the ground mixture and cook till the raw smell is gone. Add 1/4 cup of water.
  5. Add fish fillets, cover and cook for 10 minutes. Turn over the fish fillets gently so they dont break. Check salt and add if needed.
  6. Increase the flame, uncover and cook for another 5 minutes until all the water evaporates.
  7. Sprinkle cilantro and serve hot with rice and rasam.
Note :
  • If using frozen fish, add salt , turmeric powder and lemon juice, wash off the fish and add the same ingredients and marinate for half an hour.
